Business Enterprise

We had out first enterprise lecture yesterday and it was bit of a shock to the system seen as we have never had proper lectures on out course before, but I found it quite interesting. I definitely think it’s a positive thing for us to be learning how to set up a successful business, marketing techniques and how to sell and price our work etc. I’m also very interested to get to the part where we learn how to set up as a freelancer. I’m finding the start of year two really positive and exciting and I can wait to get stuck in, however it’s quite a scary thought that after this year we will be completing a collection!!

Year 2 .. Just The Beginning

So I went for my first PPD2 lesson today and it dawned on me how quickly year 2 has come around. I am so excited for this year though as we have to find our work placements, produce CVs cover letters etc. discussing it all made me realise how important it is to create contacts and most importantly experience.
We also got briefed for our new project enterprise and innovation which involves creating a business but quite professionally as if it were real and considering all the aspects that go into a successful business. I‘m finding it really inspiring actually and I can’t wait for what is too come this year!!
Also I am working my first day as a student ambassador tomorrow so I will be representing Leeds college of art and design I think it should be pretty good fun plus we get paid which is always a plus !!

What a productive Summer 09 ! flat pattern cutting is getting better !!

Seen as im back in year 2 I thought I would just update with what ive been up to over the summer. I made a conscious decision to make sure I addressed my action plan and tackle my weakness....flat pattern cutting! and I can say I really rose to the challenge and i can say i know no longer fear it but i actually really enjoy it!! angie said that once we had got used to it i would start to excite us and it really does now !!
I began with a simple top with volumous sleeves, then I decided to really challenge myslf and tackle a jacket that was the most complicated pattern i have ever had to work out and it came together really well.
I then made a dress out of calico which fitted my sister, so she requested that I make her a prom dress. I remmeber saying to her i will give it a go and see how it goes but not to get her hopes up . I moulaged parts of it but the majority was flat pattern cutting and i can't actually belive how well it turned out.

I'm really proud of what I achieved this summer as I also altered lots of dresses that used to my mums to fit me, masterd zips and also made a cusion!!
